Seasonal Reflection: Easter, 2020
by Rosemarie Pace
|
We hear this message in the Gospel at the Easter
Vigil, and how much we need it now! So many
people
have been afraid—and continue to be afraid.
People are afraid of the pandemic that is
wreaking havoc on
some people’s health; some people’s jobs,
education, and social and emotional lives; even,
perhaps,
some people’s faith.
But He is risen! And we are a resurrection
people. We, too, will rise. In some ways the
pandemic has
raised us up already. So many people are
realizing our interdependence in a new and
amazing way. So
many people have found creative ways to be there
for one another. The Internet provides us with
opportunities to connect and share inspiring
prayers, thoughtful reflections, stories of
compassion and
generosity, and some very uplifting and very
clever humor.
As people of faith, we know the pandemic will
pass and all will be well. In the meantime, let
us pray that we grow through this crisis and
come out better people than we were when it
began. Let this virus remind us of our common
humanity across social classes, races,
nationalities, religions, ages, sexes and sexual
orientations, political affiliations, and all
other ways we label and divide ourselves. And
let us go forth more committed than ever to
build the beloved community in which the Peace
of Christ reigns.
Loving Father, burn brighter ...go forth we embrace this
metaphor but how do we how do we who will show us let us turn that burns let our spirits maybe it helps let this
accelerant shine on in this
uncertain age to

- In celebration of Easter and the whole
Easter season, reach out to loved ones via
phone, e-mail, social media, good
old-fashioned letters and cards, and any
other way you have to extend Easter wishes
for joy, peace, hope, and health.
- Use the technology you have available to
join prayer services, liturgies, vigils, and
other opportunities for spiritual uplift. If
you don’t have the technology or want a
break from it, read, meditate, compose your
own prayers, sing favorite hymns, play or
listen to music that inspires you, walk in
nature as it bursts with the beauty of God’s
creation.
- Choose one way to cultivate your
peacemaking whether it’s joining webinars on
peace and social justice issues, signing
petitions, making calls to legislators, or
increasing your knowledge of nonviolence
history and practices. And consider donating
to a charity that is in need due to the
cancellation of events and other means of
sustenance, if you can.
- In hopes that we’ll be out and about
before the Easter season is over, keep an
eye out for a resumption of public
gatherings to pray, study, act, and
celebrate.
